About Me

I am a faculty member in the Department of Biological Sciences at Kent State University and received my PhD from the University of Georgia. My research focuses on response of aquatic microorganisms to their environment and how those responses may effect ecosystem level processes. Our research draws upon molecular tools to examine bacterial community structure and we collaborate with a variety of other research groups.

I am also interested in education and, more specifically, have worked on several projects at levels ranging from middle school and higher regarding environmental education with a focus on helping people learn about the importance and function of our freshwater resources.

In addition, I have been an editor for Applied and Environmental Microbiology since 2001 and serve on the editorial boards for Microbial Ecology and The International Society of Microbial Ecology Journal.
