Research Achievements

MCTP trainees mentor undergraduates

MCTP trainees have the opportunity to mentor undergraduates during the academic year and also during the summer through a partnership with the Nanoscience Chemistry and Engineering Research REU Site at UCLA. In 2009, NanoCER attracted 12 highly qualified undergraduates across the U.S to conduct hands-on, team-based research under the supervision of UCLA faculty mentors who are members of the MCTP. MCTP trainees Jonathan Fang, Gregory Kuzmanich, Danny Dodson and Matthew Allen each mentored a NanoCER student. They guided the REU participant's research project and helped develop the student's scientific presentation skills. Benny Ng also took the role of peer mentor last summer, organizing many of the team activities for the group and led the NanoCER Research Skill Seminar. At least one NanoCER student, Geeta Vadehra, was accepted for graduate study at UCLA.
