Advanced course added to core curriculum

An existing course, Gen 511-Advanced Molecular Genetics, was added to the required BCB core curriculum to deepen disciplinary training, and our complete sequence of four new interdisciplinary bioinformatics courses developed last year was offered for a second time. Gen 511 received highly positive feedback. Students enjoyed the rigor of this advanced course, which requires them to formulate hypotheses based on their reading of current literature, and to design experiments to test them. Also, student feedback confirmed that most "glitches" associated with first offerings of the new interdisciplinary core courses have been resolved. Several additional IGERT faculty volunteered to serve as co-instructors this year, including 3 ISU IGERT PIs/coPIs (Dobbs, Honavar, Aluru) and 8 additional IGERT faculty members (Brendel, Dickerson, Dorman, Gu, Jernigan, Peterson, Song, Tuggle).
