New Environmental Nanoscience and Technology Laboratory

EIGER effectively gained 6,000 square feet of brand new laboratory and office space in the new Institute for Critical Technology and Applied Science (ICTAS) on the Virginia Tech campus. The new lab is named the Environmental Nanoscience and Technology Laboratory, occupying a prime location in the new 90,000 square foot ICTAS facility. The lab houses one EIGER core faculty and three EIGER affiliated faculty from the Department of Geosiences, and the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, plus several of their students and post-docs. About $600,000 in new instrumentation and laboratory equipment has been installed. This lab/office complex will be the core of our IGERT renewal proposal, called EIGER2, which involves interdisciplinary research and training with a nanoscience and sustainability theme. The new laboratory and office space substantially enhances our educational capacity.
