Crystal lattice orientation

Former Trainee Stephen Niezgoda, advisor Surya Kalidindi, and colleagues used discrete Fourier transforms (DFTs) to describe the orientation distribution fuction (ODF) of crystal lattice orientation in a polycrystalline material sample. This work is reported in Acta Materialia (available online May 26, 2009). Niezgoda was invited to give a seminar at the Ohio State University Center for the Accelerated Maturation of Materials in June 2008, on his work. His presentation was titled Mathematical Description of Microstructure and Advanced Statistical Characterization.
