Grant writing workshop

On July 17, 2008, we held a retreat at Southampton, NY. We devoted part of the retreat to a grant writing workshop. The workshop, led by Martin Schoonen, former Associate VP for Research, took the trainees through the entire process from the initial development of a scope of work, to submission, to dealing with reviews and possible re-submission. As part of the workshop each of the trainees received a book (Friedland and Folt, "Writing successful science proposals"). One of the trainees wrote as part of our survey: " I felt the grant writing workshop was especially useful. This is something that is not really addressed with graduate students, but is a topic that is very important. It was very helpful to be introduced to the process of finding, writing and applying for grants for various types of funding and research."
