City as Assemblages course

The new City as Assemblages course, designed and taught by IGERT co-PI Beauregard, was the Trainee's first real exposure to advanced planning and planning theory as it pertains to today's complex urban environments. At the Trainee's request, this course was offered to 2nd year Trainees. The course introduced the Trainees to actor-network theory and other theoretical frameworks that challenge analytic approaches that ignore the role of inanimate objects in creating the city. The instructor brought in real-world examples, which helped the students understand non-traditional perspectives of the issues. The instructor himself noted that the presence of Engineering, as well as Planning, students in the classroom significantly enhanced the richness of the learning environment.
