Cognitive science, professional development courses lead to new ideas

We have continued to offer our Introduction to Embodied Cognitive Science (R. Beer) and Professional Development (P. Todd) courses, as well as other IGERT-themed courses such as Networks of the Brain (O. Sporns), which have consistently led to new projects, collaborations, papers, and thesis topics. For example, IGERT trainee J. de Leeuw took a course on neuroimaging with IGERT faculty member T. James, leading him to to design and pilot an fMRI study to examine different mechanisms of categorization behavior. Prof. James has explicitly mentioned how the IGERT program has brought a more intellectually diverse student body into his neuroimaging course and how their differing perspectives have contributed significantly to class discussions.
