Trainees present at American Society for Engineering Education conference

IGERT-MNM Trainees engaged in interdisciplinary projects resulting in a conference paper at the 2012 American Society for Engineering Education conference in San Antonio, Texas, and at a presentation for K-12 teachers at a 2012 New Educators Workshop in Greensboro, North Carolina. As a result of engagement within an eight week teaching and learning module, Trainees created lesson plans that translated technical content to framed within the context of Bransford, Brown, and Cocking’s (1999) “How People Learn” framework. At the end of this module, students (1) developed pedagogical expertise through an introduction to theoretically-based teaching methods and strategies that can be incorporated into Trainees’ future teaching or collaborative opportunities and communication strategies; (2) identified ways that Trainees’ personal research can be communicated in other educational contexts; and (3) explored the impacts of Trainees’ teaching and curricular innovations on “student” learning.
