Outreach to audiences on biodiversity issues and program goals

Katherine Dennis and other ABS students started an outreach committee to involve and educate multiple audiences on issues related to biodiversity and the ABS program. Their audiences to include local schools, undergraduates, and the Bryan/College Station community. One of our first projects will focus on a Biodiversity Teaching Module that could be adapted for multiple audiences (festivals, schools, exhibits) and interdisciplinary to highlight the goals of the ABS program. The module will allow audiences to examine broader ecological processes and link them to local biodiversity. We also discussed the idea of school gardens as a possible interactive and outdoor activity and could collaborate with local farmer’s market. The outreach activities will highlight the strengths of the ABS program, draw from the varied backgrounds of the ABS community, and expose audiences to the interdisciplinary aspects involved in solving conservation.
