Achievement

We continue our partnership with our NSF REU Site program. In summer 2012, our IGERT fellows actively engage in mentoring undergraduate REU students and trained them to be active and independent researchers.

Each IGERT fellow was matched with a REU student and was required to meet with the student at least once a week to discuss the research problems during the ten-week REU program. Several fellows met with their undergraduate mentees more frequently than the minimum requirement. Through the mentoring process, the fellows learned to lead by example, and to work collaboratively with an undergraduate student.
