Teams explore coupled social-ecological systems

Six interdisciplinary teams of students and faculty have been formed that will conduct research on the resilience of coupled social-ecological systems in Idaho and Costa Rica. The teams have developed interdisciplinary proposals that will guide their research. Three teams are working in biological corridors in Costa Rica that have been impacted by anthropogenic change. One team is assessing land use and cover change, social resilience, and ecological processes in the San Juan-la Selva region. Another team is examining social, ecological, and physical processes affecting river health in the Volcanica Central Talamanca region. A third team will study the synergies and tradeoffs between ecological and socio-economic goals in the Hojancha region.
