New workshop on modeling spatial-temporal data

A new two-hour workshop on modeling spatial-temporal data was given to IGERT trainees and other members of the Carolina Population Center (CPC) community in response to increasing need for advanced training in this area. The particular focus was the analysis of spatially referenced count variables, which are much more difficult than continuous variables. Three models were presented and illustrated: models with spatial temporal interactions proposed by Bernardinelli and models proposed by Waller that incorporate spatial and temporal random effects that vary over time. Estimation of these models using the software WINBUGS was illustrated, as was the use of SAS in the estimation of a two-level spatial temporal error model.
