Trainees mentor undergraduates in research

IRSP encourages trainees to mentor undergraduates interested in research careers. Sara Schlabach and Chinyere Osuji, working on related projects about interracial couples & multiracial families, created a joint research team with 4 undergraduate interns that met throughout the year. Trainees provided intensive mentoring to the undergraduates in research methods, literature reviews, coding interviews, etc. To enhance the experience, the trainees created the syllabus for a training seminar (course) with weekly readings and assignments. The course was taught during the winter term. A discussion of the ethics of research with human subjects was included and all interns successfully completed the UCLA training program in "human research certification."
