Discussing stem cell applications for TBIs

IGERT fellows participate actively in events with the Eagleton Institute for Politics and have had the opportunity over the past year to participate in private sessions with New Jersey's former Director of Health and Human Services regarding healthcare policy and reform, with Congressman Kennedy to discuss stem cell applications in research surrounding traumatic brain injury and spinal cord injury research, and have attended sessions in the New Jersey capital of Trenton where they have interacted with legislators and actively discussed their research outside of an academic setting giving them experience in the political sphere. This partnership has even led to one of our formerly funded IGERT fellows being asked to apply for an Eagleton Fellowship because of her involvement integrating Stem Cell research and policy.
