Faculty member works with Hawaiian high school teachers

IGERT faculty Durrell Kapan has been working with high school teachers and students West Hawaii Explorations Academy, a public charter school on the Island of Hawaii on studies of mosquito monitoring. The project-based learning approach of WHEA allows students to design their own studies while contributing to the larger study of mosquito monitoring. Trainees Argon Steel, Kira Krend, and Associate Panpim Thongsripong also contributed to this project, and helped make a short video of WHEA students and teachers working on the mosquito project that can be used to recruit more collaborators from additional schools and the community. Additional grant money is currently being sought to continue and expand this project statewide.
