Faculty creates QIS Tutor

iQuiSE PI Prof. Chuang created the QIS Tutor, an on-line system that provides interactive questions for the Course-Q core subject Quantum Information Processing instead of traditional homework, while monitoring students’ progress through the material. The QIS Tutor understands sophisticated mathematical objects and tests answers for satisfying various properties. It can test if a response is an acceptable set of group generators, or if an answer is a normalizer of a given group. It can accept and test a quantum circuit composed of basic quantum gates, and draw the circuit diagram. It can test a set of operators to see if they represent a trace-preserving completely-positive quantum operation. It understands various models of quantum computation beyond the circuit model, and it accepts answers written out as symbolic formulas. It can test a state to see if it satisfies constraints, and it can take a specification of a quantum error correction code, and test for specific properties.
