Trainees help design molecular modeling course

MILES IGERT Trainees Joe Allen and Justin Lemkul under the guidance of Professor David Bevan from the department of Biochemistry are working to develop and design a course in the practical aspects of molecular modeling intended for senior-level undergraduate and graduate students. The course will offer useful details of modeling techniques with a special emphasis on practical applications. Topics included are visualization, homology, modeling and structural evaluation, docking, and molecular dynamics. The students will be responsible for developing all instructional materials that will be used in the course, and Dr. Bevan will provide guidance and advice during the development of the course. Their efforts in developing and teaching the class will broaden their knowledge of the theory and practice of molecular modeling. The successful development of the class will result in a regular course offered through the Biochemistry department for students interested in molecular modeling.
