Achievement

IGERT trainees created a plan for educational outreach training that focused on gaining practical skills in media technology: blogging, video, photography, interviewing skills (as interviewer and interviewee), and public speaking. This year, the video portion of the media workshop (a series of media classes designed and taught by local experts) was incorporated into the Spring IGERT course. Trainees have undertaken outreach activities to share their science in diverse ways (web-based and public speaking) with diverse audiences, from high school students in the US and abroad and professionals in other fields to five-year-olds at the Dartmouth Daycare Center. They have participated in videoconferences and webinars as well as speaking engagements and poster sessions, and their communications skills have blossomed as a result.
