Social science component added to research activities

All LEAP Fellows have added a social science component to their research activities, including those in degree programs in the natural sciences where social science research rarely occurs. Several of these 'added value' activities have resulted in manuscripts and publications. For example, LEAP fellows Caroline Gottschalk Druschke and Carrie Seltzer have submitted a manuscript to 'Ecology and Society' that describes lessons learned from a research project on urban pollinators that used data collected by citizen scientists. Another group of students published a paper using social network analysis of environmental groups in the Chicago area. Another cohort of students have submitted a manuscript looking at the relationship between urban ecosystem services and socioeconomic indicators. None of these projects/publications would have occurred outside of the framework of the LEAP program.
