Trainee teams design integrated manufacturing systems

Having became experts in their specific research areas, in the last two years IGERT trainees have now learned how to work as a team and design integrated manufacturing systems. The first such project, last year, was sponsored by a foreign manufacturer of ceramic tablets for a total of $500,000. The project brought together trainees Vasilenko, Osorio, and Engisch, together with associate fellow Vanarese and post docs Koynov and Dubey. This year, an even more exciting project was undertaken by this team, assisted by several new students: to design a continuous tablet manufacturing system for Johnson and Johnson. THe project, which also involves researchers from university of Puerto Rico, has received $380,000 in support.
