Trainee contributes to NYC energy mapping effort

One IGERT Trainee contributed to a NYC energy mapping effort which developed a methodology to estimate the annual building energy consumption for each tax lot in NYc ( over 800,000). In addition to estimation of the total annual energy consumption, the research predicted how much energy went towards space heating, space cooling, water heating and base electric applications (lighting, refrigeration, etc). The work was published in the scholarly journal Energy and Buildings February 2012 edition. The map was featured in a variety of web and print publications including the New York times and on the home page of Columbia University's website.
