Mathematical Foundations course helps students

Research discussions among Trainees at the weekly Common Ground Seminar have shown increased computational and statistical sophistication. This has resulted in new ways of thinking about old problems (e.g., modeling how dialects change and spread in a speech community) to generating new ideas (e.g., new statistical analyses of eye movement data in behavioral studies). We believe these changes stem in part from our required Mathematical Foundations course series where students gain competence in mathematical analyses of communication and language research.
