Two interdisciplinary courses created

Two interdisciplinary courses, (1) Bioenergy Technology and (2) Bioenergy Policy, Economics, and Assessment, have been created for our IGERT scholars. Faculty from different teaching and research backgrounds instruct sections of the courses that coordinate with the four MASB program focus areas. These courses introduce and expose each MASB cohort, consisting of students from different academic backgrounds, to topics that span bioenergy research. These topics include plant and algal biology, molecular biology, chemical conversion, biological engineering, fuel product measurement and testing, energy policy, bioenergy economic assessment, and environmental assessment of bioenergy systems. Both courses end with a final project in which students work in interdisciplinary teams to learn how to integrate information from broad focus areas into a finished product that has utilized the strengths of all team members.
