New cold atom trapping aparatus

Of the three goals listed in Achievment 1, the most demanding is constructing the cold atom trapping apparatus, which will be used as a platform to do Bose condensation and other cold atom experiments in the remaining two years of our IGERRT, as well as for demonstrating the phenomena to future students. This project involves the collaboration of three IGERT students David Tabor, Jon Trossman and May Kim (along with a post doc funded by the University) who are jointly advised by Ketterson, Odom and Shahriar. The Laser, Vacuum and magnet systems have all been assembled and tested. Final alignment of the optics is underway and we expect to move on to trapping Rb atoms in the very near future.
