Simulations of noble metal nanostructures

Rob Anderson is a PhD candidate in Nanoscience and Nanoengineering at SDSM&T. His research includes electromagnetic simulations of noble metal nanostructures, with potential applications for apertureless near-field probes, and substrates for metal-enhanced fluorescence and upconversion. This year, in a research rotation to Materials Chemistry at USD, he undertook a project to model the NIR-to-visible upconversion process by a coupled rate equation analysis. The work was presented at the MRS Spring 2011 meeting, in San Francisco and is in preparation for publication in summer 2011. The work is also the subject of Rob's submission to the 2011 IGERT Poster Competition.
