Provenance in E-science

One achievement is the cross fertilization of concepts across fields. This year, one Open Data fellow and one Open Data associate conducted research on the concept of provenance in E-science. Provenance is a concept that spans archival science and computer science, but has somewhat different meanings in both fields. Both fields benefit by understanding the different applications of the concept of provenance, and it could provide the basis for future collaborations between computer scientists and archivists in developing data curation tools. This is one example of a generalizable principle that we hoped would emerge from the program.
