Studio experience

Through the IGERT's Studio experience, each IGERT trainee served as a team member on an interdisciplinary team, comprising of engineers, urban planners and architects (the architects were not funded by the IGERT). The Studio teams worked to address an urbanization challenge related to the present conditions of the Gowanus Canal in New York City. Each team developed a research project for remediation and re-development of the Canal, and presented their findings and recommendations to the faculty and Gowanus community members at three presentation forums. Student research projects will be featured at the "Green Gowanus: Re-Invinsioning an Industrial Canal" Exhibition sponsored by The Graduate School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation at Columbia University, Columbia Engineering & Parson School of Design, to be held May 14th and 15th 2011, at the Old American Can Factory, Carroll Street, Gowanus.
