Research Achievements

Magnetically steered cochlear implant project

Through an IGERT lab rotation, Lisandro Leon participated on a project with an M.S. student investigating magnetic steering of cochlear implants for reduced trauma and deeper insertion. The preliminary experimental results showed a 50% reduction in insertion forces with magnetic steering. The M.S. student has defended his thesis, and Lisandro has taken control of the magnetically steered cochlear implant project as his Ph.D. research. Recently, Lisandro has developed a closed-loop force controller for the cochlear implant with the help of another IGERT student Andrew Petruska.
