Education Achievements

Program requires courses, internships, workshops

Students in our IGERT program are required to take courses outside of their home department and discipline. Likewise, they must choose an IGERT co-advisor, and do an internship outside their home department, often with the co-advisor. The courses introduce students to the vocabulary, thought, and methods of other scientific disciplines. The students have performed well in the required external coursework. The coursework is also meant to prepare students to participate in a year-long workshop with members of their multi-disciplinary cohort, collaborating to more fully examine a problem provided by an outside client. Likewise, several collaborative projects have developed from the internships that have resulted in presentations, manuscripts and future proposals. We are now in the second workshop: students are successfully collaborating on examining mosquito, human, and malarial dynamics in Haiti.
