Informal modeling seminar

In April-June 2010, UW IPEM faculty member Darryl Holman responded to a request from IPEM trainees for more training on modeling. He offered an informal seminar with a computer lab component on algebraic programming, stochastic modeling, and model estimation via maximum likelihood. They met once or twice a week for seven weeks. The first meeting of the week was lecture and the second was a hands-on computer lab. Holman would offer a programming challenge every week that served as homework for the next week. We did not foresee the need for such a course when we proposed IPEM, but we have tried to respond flexibly to student needs as they arise.
