Achievement

We implemented our IGERT seminar for the fourth full year. Each year we have used the same basic model but have adapted to address new issues and the needs and interests across four cohorts. This year we incorporated final research presentations as more students are now beginning to finish their dissertations. We also had two sessions on conducting research in China. One session asked participants to summarize their research over the past few months if they had been in China prior to fall semester. This was followed with a discussion during the next seminar on the ethics of conducting research in China. The U.S. and China have very different ideas concerning research and science ethics. Our students had a lively debate discussing how they perceive these differences and their range of experiences with Chinese colleagues.
