Sustainably harvesting seeds

As a result of her LEAP training, the trajectory of the dissertation research of Carrie Seltzer shifted from pure field ecology to addressing an ecological question in the context of sustainable forest use. Her proposal to the Rufford Small Grants Foundation was funding, allowing her to study how changing the abundance of a wild-harvested tree nut affects seed dispersal and regeneration. Field work in Tanzania has been completed and the results will be used to inform the management practices for sustainably harvesting the seeds.
