Achievement

CIIP trainees have made substantial contributions to develop an implementation plan for a large offshore windfarm in Rhode Island coastal waters. This research and planning effort is seen as one of the most sophisticated examples of interdisciplinary marine spatial planning in the country. Trainee Smythe wrote a significant portion of the planning document on human uses in the offshore area under consideration. Trainee Byron co-authored the ecology section. Trainee Pfeiffer-Herbert coordinated research cruises to determine currents in the area. Trainee Griffin worked with the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management, Regulation and Enforcement on models for the economic development of wind energy.
