Santa Fe Institute ed conference

We ran an educational conference in the fall with the Santa Fe Institute on how to understand mappings from micro level processes to macro level processes. Rather than the typical conference in which people present papers, we asked that our presenters organize tutorial presentations. Of particular value were talks by Charles Doering (math) and Len Sander (physics) which demonstrated differences between computational and analytic models.

We had excellent turnout from our students and from faculty from a variety of disciplines.

As a follow up, we ran a one-day event in the spring on "great papers in complex systems" where our faculty each gave a fast and furious ten-minute talk on a famous paper. This event provided important background knowledge for our students. It had exceptional attendance.
