IGERT program graduates multiple trainees

Two IGERT trainees received their PhDs and two IGERT trainees received their MS degrees within this reporting period. Seven PhDs are expected to finish by the end of summer (5 trainees) or 2011 (2 trainees). Another 20 with the majority already passing their PhD qualifier exams will graduate in 1 to 3 years. We have graduated 15 trainees before May 30, 2010. We will fulfill and exceed the goal of graduating 45 IGERT students.

Nick LiCausi from Electrical Engineering completed his PhD thesis in May 2011. He accepted a research staff position at Global Foundries in NY and started the job in May. His PhD defense was attended by over 30 students and faculty. Matthew Martin from Physics received his PhD in the summer of 2010. He has been working at NIST Gaithersburg, MD since August 2010 and is totally enjoying NIST’s research environment based on his communications with the PI (G.-C. Wang). The two MS degrees students work for GE in NY State and a LED company in NC State.
