Solution-based CIGS research project

One fellow, Brion Bob under Prof. Yang Yang, participated in a solution-based CIGS research project, which is now producing photovoltaic devices with nearly 10 percent power conversion efficiency. A large number of electrically active point defects are created in CIGS films by introducing an excess of a given element, which allows for electrical properties such as dopant concentration and film conductivity to be intentionally varied by modifying the stoichiometry of the precursor solution. The fellow's work has been starting the characterization of these electrical properties and ultimat1ely providing an ideal solution stoichiometry for the successful fabrication of the CIGS/CdS rectifying junction.
