Artisnal Fisheries Research Newtwork created

Students have created an Artisanal Fisheries Research Network (AFRN). This newly formed group aims to facilitate knowledge sharing and collaboration between researchers interested in artisanal fisheries. AFRN researchers are interested fostering an improved understanding of the socioeconomic and cultural drivers underlying these fisheries and the management implications of these drivers. Group members represent academic disciplines including marine biology, economics, and business; affiliations including Scripps, UCSD, and NOAA; and research locations all over the world in including the Caribbean, North America, and Southeast Asia. The group is currently dominated by natural scientists, but is actively recruiting social scientists such as anthropologists, sociologists, and historians.
