Weekly seminar stimulates collaboration

Our weekly IPEM Seminar, which brings in eminent speakers working on evolutionary topics at the interface between anthropology and biology, has rather unexpectedly proven to be an effective stimulus for collaboration among our anthropology and biology trainees. For example, our current trainees are making an agent-based model out of a mathematical model for determining the circumstances under which vertical transmission will out-perform horizontal transmission, which was presented at a recent IPEM Seminar by Richard McElreath (UC-Davis). The trainees will develop this agent-based simulation into their team project, to be presented to the IPEM faculty and other trainees in Fall 2010.
