Trainees work to create high school curriculum

In our predecessor Biological Invasions IGERT, our 2005-2006 cohort of trainees worked with the Center for Land-based Learning, a 501(3)(c) organization, to create a high school environmental science curriculum that included a particular focus on invasive species. That curriculum now is being used by urban and rural high school teachers who partner with the Center for Land-based Learning.

Moreover, one of the trainees, Tawny Mata, has been fundamental to strengthening the connection between UC Davis graduate students and faculty, and the Center for Land-based Learning. Several students and faculty now conduct ecological research at the Center, classes visit the site on field trips, and many graduate students assist in mentoring the high school classes that visit the site.
