Achievement

Trainees learned about a variety of career options and how best to prepare for them at an IGERT career panel held on December 4, 2009. The event was entitled "Qualities of top candidates: training students for their dream jobs" and featured a panel of professionals from industry, academia, government agencies and NGOs. Panelists described a typical day at work, what they look for in new hires and what trainees should focus on if they want to join their field. Trainees had the chance to ask questions and talk informally with the panelists during a social hour that followed. All panelists agreed to provide additional guidance once students are closer to graduation. The career panel was attended by most trainees; it gave them the opportunity to ensure they are on track in their career preparation.
