Trainee serves at URS project mentor

Trainee Aliea McCord served as an Undergraduate Research Scholars (URS) project mentor. Ms. McCord supervised and mentored two students in their studies of microbial ecology in western Uganda. In addition to training the students in standard molecular techniques including how to logically and methodically troubleshoot common (and not so common) diagnostic errors, she trained them in the scientific process; they learned how to read and interpret primary literature, and practiced many forms of scientific communication. Ms. McCord's CHANGE training in interpersonal and professional communication helped her succeed as a mentor. The students produced posters and papers about their original scholarly work that were presented at the on-campus URS symposium.
