Doctoral student exchange program

Our Doctoral student exchange program with the Universities of Muenster and Bremen (Germany), funded by the German Science Foundation (DGF) under their International Research Training Group program (GRK 1498), got underway in June 2009. The topic is "Semantic Integration of Geospatial Information". So far, four IRTG students have made extended research visits to Buffalo, participating in IGERT-related research groups, attending courses, and participating in the weekly IGERT colloquia. To enhance the IRTG/IGERT collaboration, we initiated a monthly virtual seminar that links people at the 3 participating institutions for discussion of research issues, proposal presentations by students, and visiting speakers. Also during the period, three UB IGERT Trainees (Heath Robinson and Jeff Gower, Geography, and Bill Duncan, Philosophy) made extended visits to Muenster. June 10-13 2009, four faculty and two post-Docs from the IRTG visited Buffalo and met with local researchers and trainees.
