Achievement

The Testbed course continues to be our most effective interdisciplinary training component. The testbed students this year had to extend and combine their skills as a team to create a indoor navigation system for one of our faculty members who is blind. The students worked with the faculty member to elicit requirements for the system, they investigated various sensor technologies and opted for an RFID based system. They tested the RFID technology and developed an audio based location and routing application that provides a blind user with audio cues to locate themselves in a building or navigation instructions to reach a desired destination.
