Trainees and affiliates of the National Science Foundation’s Integrative Graduate Education and Research Traineeship (IGERT) program in Indoor Environmental Science and Engineering at The University of Texas (UT) are actively involved in a wide range of public outreach efforts. These activities provide a service to the community, but also allow students to hone their public communication skills and to work as interdisciplinary teams on public outreach projects. At Explore UT, a large open-house at UT, IGERT trainees Brent Stephens (left) and Sonny Rosenthal (right) (in gray IGERT T-shirts) demonstrate concepts of pollution sources and transport through a home to a family that includes a future scientist using a demonstration tool called the House of Pressure.
