Schematic of composite membrane system. Blank PVDF membrane is functionalized with a negatively-charged polyelectoryle, polyacrylic acid, via in-situ polymerization. The PAA/PVDF membrane is then used to either capture Fe2+ or additional polyelectrolyte layers (i.e. positively-charged polyallylamine hydrochloride, PAH) for enzyme (GOX) immobilization.
