Congruence Metrics Enable Improved Organizational Design

Achievement/Results

Igert trainee Marcelo Cataldo, with advisors Herbsleb and Carley, developed, implemented and tested metrics for assessing organizational congruence. He was able to show that the lack of congruence is associated with poor performance, and that congruence can be estimated from general project records, such as change reports and errors in software development teams.

Address Goals

Primary: This is a new scientific discovery that advances out knowledge in the area of organizational design and software management. Secondary: Cataldo’s work led to his dissertation and so a new Ph.D. scientist. And this metric is now part of the ORA toolkit and is available as part of the nation’s infrastructure as this technology is freely downloadable from the CASOS site.
