Robotics K-12 Outreach

Achievement/Results

NSF-funded researchers at the University of Utah, led by Dr. John Hollerbach, have been working to increase knowledge of and enthusiasm for robotics in area schools. At the middle school level, students use Lego Mindstorms robots to compete at science-themed challenges, such as energy conservation. At the high school level, students build large robots using industrial quality parts. Utah’s Robotics Track faculty and students have helped with mentoring teams, organizing competitions, and running science camps involving over 100 children.

Address Goals

These outreach activities engage student interest and encourage them to both learn more about science and to consider science for future educational and career opportunities.
