Al conducts better than Cu at the atomic scale: A first-principles study of metallic atomic wires

Description:

A first-principles study of the electronic transport properties and electron-phonon interactions in atomic wires composed of Al, Cu, Ag and Au. We find that unlike the bulk, Al has a weaker electron-phonon interaction at the atomic scale relative to Cu, which gives rise to a higher conductivity.
