Dartmouth IGERT Students in Greenland

Description:

Dartmouth Polar Environmental Change IGERT students have landed in Kangerlussuaq, Greenland, for a month-long field study that will take them to Summit Station on the Greenland Ice Sheet and the capital Nuuk. Currently based at the Kangerlussuaq International Science Support facility, aka “KISS," they are studying how snow becomes the ice core record of climate change. After flying to a field camp near the Greenland Ice sheet, they will develop an interdisciplinary map of the soil, plant, and animal systems. They will also investigate the amazing “sand valley” dune formations and an ongoing carbon storage study in Valgaris Valley. Once in Nuuk, they will pursue a very different perspective on climate change and life in Greenland when they engage faculty, government, and community representatives to learn their perspectives on topics related to environmental change and its impact on Greenland and its people.
